Health & Wellness
At Fluff It! Pet Spa, we believe grooming is more than just a haircut—it’s a vital part of your pet’s overall health. From shiny coats and healthy skin to comfortable nails and clean teeth, each aspect of grooming plays a role in keeping your pet happy and thriving.
In this section, you’ll find answers to the most common questions we get about grooming and health, along with articles and resources dedicated to each area of your pet’s care. We’ll cover:
-
Skin & coat health – how to manage shedding, prevent matting, and keep skin balanced.
-
Nail & paw care – why nail length matters and how to keep paws comfortable.
-
Dental hygiene – the role of teeth cleaning in your pet’s long-term health.
-
Ear care – how regular cleaning prevents infection and discomfort.
We’ll also share practical Q&As, evidence-based articles, and tips you can use at home to support your pet’s health between visits. Regular grooming is more than just maintenance—it’s one of the easiest and most effective ways to promote your pet’s wellbeing from nose to tail.

*New* Can grooming help with allergies or shedding?
While it’s important to note that no groomer can completely eliminate the dander that causes human allergies, regular grooming can significantly reduce the impact. Humans are allergic to dander, which is mostly made up of dead skin cells, not the fur itself. Regular baths help remove dead skin and loose fur, reducing allergen buildup in your home.
When it comes to shedding, grooming also makes a big difference. A full de-shed treatment can remove impacted undercoat from areas brushes often miss, like the belly, legs, underarms, and face. For dogs who shed, we recommend a 4–8 week schedule—or even every 2–4 weeks if owners have allergies.
How often should I brush my dog’s teeth?
It’s important to brush your dog’s teeth 2–3 times per week (ideally daily if possible). Just brushing when your dog sees the groomer isn’t enough to maintain good dental health. At Fluff It! every grooming service includes tooth brushing and breath spray, but we also recommend using easy-to-apply at-home products between visits. We’ve put together a resource with our favorite products to help keep your pet’s smile fresh and healthy.
Can I get my pet groomed after surgery?
Yes—but only after your veterinarian gives approval. Bathing or grooming too soon after surgery can reopen surgical sites or cause infection. Most pets are cleared for grooming within 2–4 weeks, depending on the procedure, but it always depends on your vet’s recommendation.
Once the wound is fully healed and your pet is cleared, grooming is important to keep them clean and prevent dirt or debris from causing irritation.
Can you groom disabled pets?
Absolutely! As mobile groomers, we actually see a higher number of pets with disabilities and special needs, and we’re proud to provide them with the extra care they deserve. Pets with mobility challenges, vision or hearing loss, incontinence, or other health conditions often need a gentler approach—and at Fluff It! we adapt our grooming plan to fit each pet’s unique needs.
We’ve invested in specialized tools and methods to make the process easier and more comfortable, from super-low hydraulic tables and supportive hammocks to ramps, non-slip surfaces, and more.
We know it can be tough watching your pet face new challenges, but you don’t have to go through it alone—we’re here to help you keep them healthy, comfortable, and loved through every stage of life.
